Being unemployed = being treated like an Idiot!

May 7th, 2008

I have been unemployed for 10 weeks now. I am not totally unemployed, as I work for the Army Cadets and get paid an allowance, but to keep things simple, just call me unemploymed.

It seems that everyone who is unemployed has some sort of stigma attached to them and are treated like idiots from some different people and groups around the place. Why is that? Sure, some people who are unemployed are lazy and don’t really want a job. But I am someone who is keen to find work and who applies for a few jobs each day. I am not willing to work in a factory, as I have been there and done that, but I am willing to work and do pretty much anything else as long as it does not interfere with my work with cadets.

I am just so sick and tired of being treated like a bum and an idiot who gets shoved into the stereotypical ‘unemployed’ box! Give those of us who genuinely want work a chance and start treating us like human beings again!

ANZAC Day

April 25th, 2008

As an Officer of Cadets with the Australian Army Cadets I felt so privileged and honoured to be involved with ANZAC Day ceremonies in Bendigo today.

We started off at in the morning, which was a nice service with quite a few people turning out.

We then headed into town for the main town service. I marched with my cadets and was overcome with a great sense of pride and awe as I marched down the street and saw all the people watching and clapping as we, and of course, many others, marched by.

I was ecstatic to see all of my cadets turn out, to see the veterans, some so brittle and frail, and others so fit and healthy, turn out, and the various other organisations involved, including scout groups with very young members! What a great honour for these young children to be involved in something so important to our national history!

If you look at all the young people involved in ANZAC Day these days you would be astonished! They are so passionate and so keen to honour our fallen soldiers and I have no doubt that they will continue to honour them in the years to come. The power of young people and their passion for our history is alive and well and I don’t think this passion will die off anytime soon! Lets keep the faith and continue to breathe and live the ANZAC spirit so that our young people can also continue to carry on this proud tradition.

I was very proud of my cadets today and I felt overwhelming honoured to march in an ANZAC Day parade today. It was truly amazing and I can’t wait for the many more to come during my Officer of Cadets career.

Lest we forget.

Not Happy with free to air TV

April 6th, 2008

I’m a tiger’s fan in the AFL and have been looking forward to kicking back and watching the game this afternoon (Sunday Afternoon). Before the game even starts I get a text message from a friend who lives in Wemen stating that at half time the pies are flogging the tigers. Not happy (with the TV, not the friend, she was just doing her duty and rubbing it in)! If free to air TV played a live game once in a while I would be sitting back now watching the game without knowing what the half time score would be, sure I would soon find out we were getting flogged, but thats not the point. Free to air TV plays crap on TV all day and then shows the game delayed for an hour. Whats the point? Why can’t they just play the game live? I like watching the game rather than listening to it on the radio when I can, so hence I wanted to watch the game. Grrr. Yeah I’m having a gripe but as a crazy footy fan and a mad tigers supporter, I think I have every right to gripe!

Rudd’s Salute = an unhappy Dr Nelson

April 4th, 2008

Our PM Saluted President Bush yesterday at the NATO Summit and later on downplayed it as a joke.

It seems Mr Rudd thinks he is best mates with President Bush, “I was just saying hi to the President of the United States - I was just with him the other day,” Mr Rudd said.

And as far as Dr Nelson is concerned, “it’s conduct unbecoming of an Australian prime minister.” I would have to agree with this, and not to mention that it was the worst attempt of a salute I have seen in a long time. Perhaps he should leave that to the experts and stick with a simple handshake, surely he can’t get that wrong!?

It seems Mr Rudd is digging himself a bigger hole each day, with the opposition, Liberal party and other party supporters continually growing a dislike to him.

“Mr Rudd appears to conduct himself in one manner when he thinks the television is on him and in another when it is not.

“Australia is a confident, outward-looking country after more than 10 years of a strong foreign policy development and we  need a strong prime minister to represent our very best interests throughout the world,” Dr Nelson said.

Hmmm. I can’t wait to see what happens next…

Too many ‘core issues’ and too much ‘core business’

April 3rd, 2008

According to an editorial in The Australian today Mr Rudd ’should take a long-term view’ and ‘Labor must identify and focus on three or four key issues”. The Australan has also explained that ‘Mr Rudd has shown he is prepared to back flip at the first hint of pressure, whether it be over cutting cash payments to the wealthy or hastily organising meetings with the Japanese Prime Minister’.

So it seems that the hundreds of ‘core issues’ and too many ‘core business’ ideas Mr Rudd talks about on a regular basis are becoming a few too many ‘cores’ for the people of Australia. It is evident that Mr Rudd really doesn’t know what the ‘core issues’ and what his ‘core business’ ideas are for his government, and for Australia, as there are way too many of them!

So the question I would like to ask is… if Mr Rudd doesn’t know what the ‘core issues’ and what his ‘core business’ is, how on earth is anyone else supposed know?

Perhaps Mr Rudd should stop dreaming up and talking about all of his governments ‘core issues’ and its ‘core business’ and start working on achievable outcomes, such as focusing on three or four key issues, as The Australian points out.
So, Mr Rudd, please stop talking about ‘core issues’ and ‘core business’ and start acting and taking action - after all, that is what you are paid to do! Isn’t it?

Sex Contracts

April 3rd, 2008

April Fools day has been and gone hasn’t it? Or was this one late to hit the press?

An Independent MP in South Australia has come up with an idea that ‘women should sign a contract before sex to combat false rape allegations’.

Signing this contract would mean that it would be an offence to continue a sex act with a person (phew, glad it doesn’t include things that aren’t human) after consent if they changed their mind - which, according to the MP, would make it easier for men to be accused of rape.

The MP also claims that one-night stands and casual relationships would become high-risk activity and suggests that the parliament could devise a contract “which men could carry around in their pocket, next to their condoms”.

Can you imagine, a man and a woman start getting it on, he reaches for his condom in his pocket and pauses…

“Oh shit, sorry, I forgot, I need you to sign this contract so you can’t accuse me of rape later down the track, just fill this out and add your phone number, address and licence number and sign on the dotted line. Thanks”.

Wouldn’t that kill the rest of the evening!?

“The contract may contain the name and address of the women, with her driver’s licence number, so that the man can see the signatures match, clauses that state that the woman has or has not been drinking or taking drugs – licit or illicit – and that she consents to foreplay,” the MP said.

I can’t believe this, I really can’t! Is this about protecting women from rape or about making it easier for women to accuse men of rape?

I am not into the clubbing scene, but I was a few years ago and so many people are out there just to get laid! I’m not saying that I condone rape, I think it is disgusting and any man (or woman) for that matter, should be held accountable for their actions, but I think a sex contract is a little (or a lot) over the top!

Education is the key, not signing a piece of bloody paper!

Rudd’s 2020 Crap-pit!

April 2nd, 2008

Rudd gets in to government and decides to hold a 2020 summit with 1000 celebrities, Doctors, Professors, Associates and “normal” people from around Australia to talk about big ideas on how to develop our country for the future.

What do you think? Is Rudd trying too hard in his first year as the PM or am I just overreacting?

Rudd believes that talking to 1000 people over a few days and holding a summit talking about key topics (that he and/or his party has preselected) will benefit the nation! Correct me if I’m wrong, but if key topics have already been selected, doesn’t that make it a little difficult for the lucky 1000 to have a say in the way they want the country to develop and run by 2020? In 12 years time we could have a disaster on our hands people!

Oh, and one more thing, local summits have been organised, mind you though, the local summits for Victoria are all in the Melbourne region, so don’t worry about those of us living in regional or rural areas, we don’t matter anymore, that is, if we ever mattered at all!

Grrr… More on this come I guess, after all it is the summit to change a nation (for the worst!)

I have returned…

April 2nd, 2008

Hi Everyone,

It has been quite a while, way to long, since I last did anything of importance to my site and I have decided to turn over a new leaf and start again.

You will notice, well that is if you have been here before, that all previous posts and things have been removed, so by turning over a new leaf I really mean “turning over a new leaf”.

I am not quite sure what I will add to my site from here on in, but it should be interesting, more exciting and a tad more professional. Maybe more on politics, the footy (AFL) that is, and things that really do matter, as well as the odd personal blog for those of you who care.
So stay tuned, there’s plenty more to come!
Peace and love my friends,

Dani
